Fennies nursery in Horley wins the 2018 NMT Award for Nursery Indoor Learning Environment

Fennies Day Nursery and Preschool in Horley has taken home the award for Nursery Indoor Learning Environment at this year’s Nursery Management Today Awards.

The nursery, which is rated Outstanding by Ofsted, was announced as the winner on Saturday 1st December at a coveted awards ceremony at London’s Hotel Metropole.

“We are overjoyed to have won the award for Nursery Indoor Learning Environment.  The whole team has been so committed to providing the very best learning and development opportunities for the children so it was such a wonderful feeling to have this recognised. We are so very proud of our nursery and it cements what has been a brilliant year for the team.”

Laura Woods, Nursery Manager

Team work

The nursery in Horley places great value on staff training and it is through the training opportunities available that the management and whole staff team have been able to implement accredited learning approaches including Loose Parts Play, Communication Friendly Spaces and The Curiosity Approach.

The NMT Judging Panel quoted “The finalists from Fennies Day Nursery and Pre-School Horley were able to articulate how they have put their training and passion into practice to provide truly inspirational indoor learning environments.”

Leading with The Curiosity Approach, you can see upon visiting the nursery how it has been inspired by the approach through the use of ‘authentic items’ such as bone china sets, crockery hampers and the inclusion of cosy home corners.

“We create the opportunity for open ended play that inspires the children’s imaginations. The staff at Fennies Horley have really embraced ‘in the moment planning’ to ensure they are always seeking new and unique ways to teach the children and contribute to their early learning journey”.

Stacey Bailey, Regional Quality Manager

An outstanding nursery

Fennies preschool and day nursery in Horley opened in 2015 and has since enjoyed an abundance of successes. This year it was awarded an outstanding merit by Ofsted with inspectors noting “Children now experience an even greater range of natural materials and everyday objects as they play. Staff are extremely keen to continue to extend their skills and keep children enthralled in new learning experiences. For example, staff attend an extensive range of training workshops, such as developing children’s language and communication skills and helping boys develop confidence in readiness for school. Staff are seeking even further ideas in supporting school readiness.”
