What is a Third in Charge?

As a Third in Charge, you’ll be part of the Management Team in your nursery. You’ll have lots of experience working in a nursery management role through your time as a Room Leader. You’ll have the duties of a Room Leader, so you’ll be the best at implementing creative learning activities and leading your team. When the Management Team are absent, you’ll assist the team by taking on the responsibility of Deputy Manager to help to maintain high standards in your nursery and support the Nursery Manager. You’ll be an exceptional role model in everything and through your positive attitude you’ll empower your team.

What does a Third in Charge do?

As a Third in Charge, you’ll assist the Nursery Manager and the Deputy Manager with the day-to-day running of the nursery. Your key responsibilities will include helping with the routines in your room, such as naptimes and mealtimes. You’ll be passionate about the early years educational in your room, and as an experienced Room Leader, you’ll utilise your knowledge of the EYFS curriculum to create fun, inspirational activities for the children and upskill the others in your room. You’ll grow the Fennies family on a daily basis, by building bonds with each child, team member and parent.

FAQs

You’ll need to have a minimum of an NVQ level 2 in Childcare and be working toward your NVQ level 3 in Childcare or equivalent.
At Fennies, we’ll support you on your first step towards a career in nursery management. You can attend many courses and programmes, and you’ll be given the exciting opportunity to develop your career, all with the support of Fennies Academy. If you’re an experienced Room Co-Ordinator (or you might also have the job role of Room Leader), then becoming a Third in Charge is the next step in your career development. You’ll still be a Room Leader, but with the additional responsibility to support the Managers.
You’ll support the Managers in your nursery by providing feedback on how the teams are performing, and you’ll help promote best practices in childcare in your nursery.
