Food at Fennies

With kitchens on site, our talented chefs and kitchen assistants cook delicious and nutritious meals to fuel your little one on their day’s adventures.

We rotate our menu twice a year and all our chefs have received their food hygiene (L2), and are trained to manage allergens and intolerances. We are proudly accredited with EYA (Early Years Nutrition Partnership), prioritising your child’s well-being above all else. EYA is a partnership between the Early Years Alliance and the British Nutrition Foundation. 


Early Years Alliance

The EYA believes that good nutrition is one of the fundamentals of a child’s well-being and that a consistent, evidence-based approach is essential to establish healthy eating practices. The EYA offers expert, tailored nutrition support to all Fennies settings via a team of Registered Nutrition Professionals (RNPs). EYA also provides specialist nutrition training for our educators, Chefs and Kitchen Assistants, as well as accreditation through our national Quality Mark.

 Knowing that Fennies has a long-standing relationship with the Early Years Alliance nutrition team means that there is a focus on a wide variety of aspects across the nursery that will help to provide a well-rounded experience for your child including a balanced and varied menu, a relaxed, sociable and positive environment to eat in, tailored support for children with dietary needs, and engaging food-related activities like cooking, gardening, and storytelling. Your child will be supported to serve and feed themselves and join in with mealtime set up and clear away when it is age appropriate.

Our registered nutritionists from EYA provide Fennies with a framework to develop healthy and nutritious menus for the children and to create a positive environment for the children to learn about why food and nutrition are so important to them in providing energy and nutrients to grow and develop.

Being a parent is a hard job, and feeding your child is often difficult and can cause undue stress on you and your family.
Here are my top five tips:
1. Include a variety of foods
2. Establish a good mealtime routine
3. Be a good role model
4. Expose your child to the foods you want them to eat
5. Take the pressure off

Probably the best thing about the nursery is the well-balanced variety of meals and snacks given to the children each day, throughout the day. My daughter eats a higher quality of food at the nursery than at home!
